Position Summary

Responsible for directing and monitoring contractor operations, examining material quality, usage and comparing operational functions with contract specifications. Also, responsible for inspecting Transmission systems, including electric facilities and vegetation, to ensure system reliability and safety.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Examine construction/maintenance work performed by contractors.
  2. Ensure contractors follow GP&L policies and procedures.
  3. Obtain ROW/clearances on Transmission or Distribution line circuits.
  4. Inspect Transmission and Distribution easements and equipment for reliability.
  5. Prepare documentation indicating approval or rejection of material or craftsmanship.
  6. Interpret engineering design/ construction procedures and instruct contractors in resolution of technical problems.
  7. Investigate customer complaints and initiate satisfactory resolution.

Preferred Knowledge - Abilities & Skills

Education/ Experience:     

  • 8 or more years experience with Electric Utility or as a Journey Line Technician
  • Department of Labor Journeyman Lineman Certificate or equivalent

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:           

  • Computer skills – Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint
  • Ability to read and translate construction documents and one-line drawings of electric designs
  • Ability to communicate standards and specifications for construction projects
  • Highly organized and self-motivated to work with little supervision

Licenses & Certifications

 Class A CDL Driver’s License

Physical Tasks & Working Conditions

The incumbent works at construction sites; frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards; majority of work performed outside. Also required to work extended working hours.

Minimum Education & Work Experience

 High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
 4 years related experience in electrical industry
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
