  • Position Summary

    Responsible for the maintenance and repair of departmental vehicles and equipment. Also, responsible for vehicle, equipment and parts acquisition and delivery.

    Essential Job Functions


    1. Monitor and track departmental vehicles and equipment in order to schedule maintenance with Fleet Services.
    2. Notify Fleet Service Writer of schedule changes.
    3. Coordinate road service calls with Fleet Services.
    4. Analyzes needed preventative maintenance to identify related costs.
    5. Predict future equipment replacement requirements to ensure adequate inventory levels.
    6. Complete daily equipment status report to submit to the Service Coordinator and Operations Manager.
    7. Perform safety and DOT standard inspections on all vehicles.
    8. Review and analyze Fleet Anywhere reports to verify accuracy or identify discrepancies.
    9. May offload brush trucks at landfill as required.

    Preferred Knowledge - Abilities & Skills

    Education/ Experience:     


    • 4 - 5 years experience overseeing and preparing technical specifications for vehicles and equipment in a large public or private agency utilizing a wide variety of light and heavy vehicles and equipment
    • Mechanic experience
    • ASE Certifications preferred, not required


    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:                

    • Working knowledge of solid waste operations
    • Basic mechanical knowledge of solid waste collection vehicles
    • Basic knowledge of DOT safety policies, precautions, rules and regulations
    • Skill operating basic office equipment and software
    • Skill in Microsoft Office (including Excel and Outlook)
    • Ability to coordinate scheduling in a constructive manner
    • Ability to communicate effectively in English both in writing and orally

    Licenses & Certifications

     Valid Class A or Class B Texas driver's license
     Must obtain Class A CDL within six months of hire

    Physical Tasks & Working Conditions

    Frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Majority of work performed outside or with exposure to risk. May be subject to safety and traffic hazards, fumes, chemicals, and/or physical stress from exertion or lifting.
    Shift is M-F 6am-10am

    Minimum Education & Work Experience

     1 year advanced study past the high school level
     4 years related experience
