  • Position Summary

    Responsible for delegating assignments and tasks to ensure quality Brush & Bulky Goods, Residential & Recycling, Commercial and Transfer Station collections for the City of Garland.

     

    Direct Reports:  Field Operations Leader, Equipment Operator I, Equipment Operator II, Equipment Maintenance Technician

     

     

    Essential Job Functions

    1. Assign personnel and equipment in a manner that ensures balanced crews and complete coverage or collection area.
    2. Complete service requests resolution details and submit to the Customer Service division.
    3. Plan and implement effective safety strategies.
    4. Delegate assignments and work tasks.
    5. Ensure delivery of quality collection service by driving routes to prevent missed collections.
    6. Maintain a positive presence on the route by observing collections, coaching to improve job performance, correcting unsafe work practices, resolving conflict and/ or collection problems.
    7. Meet on site or via telephone with customers to provide information, repair property damage, give claim cards, discuss and resolve complaints.
    8. Operate various pieces of equipment as required.
    9. Perform training for direct subordinates.

    Preferred Knowledge - Abilities & Skills

    Education/ Experience:     

    • 5-7 years in refuse collection
    • Class A Texas commercial driver’s license
    • 2-3 years experience in leadership role

     

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

    • Basic knowledge of supervisory principles and practices
    • Basic knowledge of safety hazards and practices relating to solid waste collection operations
    • Ability to lead employees in the completion of work assignments
    • Ability to understand and implement verbal and written instructions
    • Skill in maintaining accurate records

    Licenses & Certifications

     Valid Class A Texas CDL

    Physical Tasks & Working Conditions

    The incumbent works in an outdoor environment; frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Majority of work performed outside or with exposure to risk.

    Minimum Education & Work Experience

     High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
     5 years related experience
     2 years experience in leadership role
    Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
