  • Position Summary

    Responsible for performing maintenance and upkeep duties of City parks, grounds, buildings, athletic fields and related facilities.

    Essential Job Functions

    1. Operate tractor with mower attachments, including one ton truck with trailer, riding mower, edger, line trimmer, backpack blower, push lawnmower, etc.
    2. Perform athletic field preparation and maintenance including cutting and chalking foul lines, light inspections and replacing, painting benches and poles, dragging infield dirt and setting up bases.
    3. Collect litter and debris from parks, grounds, buildings, athletic fields and related facilities and properly dispose.
    4. Complete work according to City safety policies and procedures.

    Preferred Knowledge - Abilities & Skills

    Education/ Experience:     

    • Up to 1 year experience in park maintenance, operating trucks, tractors or related equipment

     

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:           

    • Basic knowledge of operating equipment in a safe manner
    • Basic knowledge of or experience grounds maintenance and heavy equipment
    • Basic knowledge of the materials and the ability to operate equipment used to work up and prepare ball fields
    • Skill in operating smaller parks maintenance equipment
    • Ability to work in a team environment
    • Ability to pick up litter and debris, clean playgrounds and generally police all parks and recreational areas and facilities

    Licenses & Certifications

     Valid Class C Texas driver's license

    Physical Tasks & Working Conditions

    The incumbent works with frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Majority of work performed outside or with exposure to risk. May be exposed to extremes of heat and cold, rain, humidity, wetness, insects, noxious odors, fumes, and physical stress from exertion and lifting. Exposed to physical exertion such as bending, lifting, stooping, reaching, pulling, and pushing. Ability to lift 50 pounds.

    Minimum Education & Work Experience

     High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
     No experience required
    Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
