  • Position Summary

    Responsible for the investigation and replacement of electric and water meters that have failed to function properly or demonstrate other malfunctions.  Also, responsible for the installation of new electric and water Electronic Receiver/Transmitter (ERT) meters.

    Essential Job Functions

    1. Investigate Electronic Receiver/Transmitter (ERT) meter for possible malfunctions.
    2. Test the accuracy of ERT meter readings with handheld computers.
    3. Install, disconnect, remove and reconnect electric and water meters used to record consumptions of residential and commercial customers.
    4. Investigate customer high-bill complaints and communicate with customers.

    Preferred Knowledge - Abilities & Skills

    Education/ Experience:     

    • Experience in reading, testing and installing electric and water meters
    • Experience in working with 250 volts
    • Experience in similar Meter Technician Programs

     

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

    • General knowledge of meter reading software
    • General knowledge of Banner Billing System
    • Skill in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
    • Skill in troubleshooting bad or inactive meters
    • Skill in analyzing meter data
    • Ability to work in a team environment
    • Ability to take on new tasks
    • Ability to prepare daily work schedule

    Licenses & Certifications

    Valid Class C Texas Driver’s license
    Class "D" Water License required or ability to obtain one within the first six months of hire date

    Physical Tasks & Working Conditions

    The incumbent works outdoors and around parameters of buildings with frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards.

    Minimum Education & Work Experience

    High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (G.E.D.)
    2 years experience reading electric and water meters
    Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
