  • Position Summary

    Responsible for repairing, maintaining, and performing preventive maintenance for the City of Garland’s facilities and equipment including parks, playgrounds, pools, buildings, etc.

     

    Target Hiring Range: $15.91/hr-$19.25/hr

    Essential Job Functions

    1. Perform facility and equipment area checks looking for safety hazards and record daily preventative maintenance inspections.
    2. Maintain safe operation of vehicles and equipment (i.e. mowers, sand rakes, trucksters, auxiliary equipment and playground and picnic equipment) by providing routine and non-routine maintenance.
    3. Document records regarding materials, parts, labor and cost of repairs.
    4. Repair any City owned facility or park equipment as needed including gates, fence, ground holes, paint, signs, etc.
    5. Troubleshoot electrical and cosmetic issues and repair as needed.
    6. Conduct pool repairs and preparations, perform minor repairs on plumbing systems and remove graffiti from facilities, walls, etc. on City owned property.

    Preferred Knowledge - Abilities & Skills

    Education/ Experience:     

    • Advanced study or training past the high school equivalency in vehicle, machinery and equipment repair
    • 2-4 years parks, grounds and facility maintenance experience
    • Certified Playground Inspector License preferred, not required

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:           

    • Basic knowledge of the methods, principles, materials, tools and standard practices of equipment technology
    • Basic knowledge of major automotive landscape equipment systems such as electric, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic or electronic, and typical causes of system malfunctions
    • Skill in performing preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment
    • Skill communicating effectively verbally and in writing
    • Ability to diagnose and repair grounds keeping equipment and associated systems

    Licenses & Certifications

     Valid Class C Texas driver's license

    Physical Tasks & Working Conditions

    The incumbent works with frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Majority of work performed outside or with exposure to risk. May be exposed to extremes of heat and cold, rain, humidity, wetness, insects, noxious odors, fumes, and physical stress from exertion and lifting. Exposed to physical exertion such as bending, lifting, stooping, reaching, pulling, and pushing. Ability to lift 50 pounds.

    Minimum Education & Work Experience

     High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
     2 years related experience
    Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
