  • Position Summary

    Responsible for operating specialized equipment in the installation, repair and maintenance of assigned area of responsibility.

     

    Target Hiring Range: $15.03/hr - $18.14/hr

    Essential Job Functions

    1. Operate light equipment required in the upkeep and operation of the areas of responsibility.
    2. Inspect and maintain assigned equipment.
    3. Identify equipment needs for each assigned project.
    4. Operate heavy park maintenance equipment in clearing debris and general maintenance of street right of ways.
    5. Perform litter control in areas of assignment.
    6. May operate/ train on specialized pieces of heavy equipment in the absence of Operator II (Various Departments).
    7. May aid in the reconstruction and repair of streets/ alley removal (Streets).

     

    Preferred Knowledge - Abilities & Skills

    Education/ Experience:     

    • 1-2 years of experience in landscaping, operating equipment and tractors
    • Licensed Pesticide Applicator preferred, not required

     

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

    • Extensive knowledge of landscaping maintenance, turf management
    • Basic knowledge of operation and maintenance requirements of power-driven equipment
    • Basic knowledge of safe work practices
    • Basic knowledge in care, operation and maintenance of various power tools and equipment
    • Basic knowledge of landscaping practices
    • Basic knowledge of safety hazards and safety practices
    • Skill to use a variety of tools and equipment appropriate to the work assigned
    • Skill in operating light and/or heavy equipment
    • Skill in general maintenance and repair
    • Skill in effective oral and written communication
    • Ability to perform physical labor as required
    • Ability to work independently in the absence of supervision
    • Ability to understand and implement verbal and written instructions
    • Ability to work in a team environment

     

    Licenses & Certifications

    Valid Class C Texas driver's license
    Valid Class B Texas driver’s license or the ability to obtain within six months of hire
    Valid Class A CDL with Tanker License the ability to obtain within six months of hire

    Physical Tasks & Working Conditions

    The incumbent works with frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Employee to work a normal work day of 8 hours per day Monday thru Friday and may be required to work overtime at supervisors discretion. Majority of work performed outside or with exposure to risk. May operate trucks and tractors in heavy traffic and hazards. May be exposed to extremes of heat and cold, rain, humidity, wetness, insects, noxious odors, fumes, handling of pesticides and physical stress from exertion and lifting. Exposed to physical exertion such as bending, lifting, stooping, reaching, pulling, and pushing. Ability to lift up to 100 pounds.

    Minimum Education & Work Experience

    High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
