  • Position Summary

    Responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating and overseeing field staff and activities related to the reliable and economic operation, maintenance, and construction of the distribution system.

    Essential Job Functions

    1. Manage the planning and coordination of operations, maintenance and repair activities for the Distribution Division.
    2. Assist with the determination of system needs and planning modifications and/or additions to the electric facilities.
    3. Support the Distribution Director and Engineering staff with the long and short range planning for the Distribution Division.
    4. Assist in the administration of GP&L’s Distribution annual O&M and Capital budgets.
    5. Evaluate staff performance, assess training needs and develop improvements to workflow.
    6. Ensure the proper vehicles, tools and material required to perform the tasks in the field are able to meet these needs.
    7. Represent the division to personnel from other departments, outside agencies, developers, and contractors.
    8. Respond to citizen inquiries, complaints and requests for service. Transmit information to members of public to demonstrate resolution of concerns.

    Minimum Education & Work Experience

     Associate’s degree
     10+ years experience in the electric utility industry
     5+ years progressive supervisory experience in the electric utility industry
     2 years supervisory experience
    Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

    Preferred Knowledge - Abilities & Skills

    Education/ Experience:     

    • Associate’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field of study
    • 10 years supervisory experience in the electric utility industry
    • 4-6 years experience as a Journey Line Technician in the Electric Utility Industry
    • 2-3 years supervisory experience


    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

    • Extensive understanding of functions, use, and care of tools and materials used in electrical line work, house circuits, and substation equipment
    • Extensive knowledge of supervisory and managerial techniques and principles
    • Extensive knowledge of safety precautions, theories and practices of construction, repair, and maintenance of high voltage electrical lines
    • Extensive knowledge of electrical theory and how to implement it into an electrical system
    • Extensive knowledge of the theories and practices of electrical distribution planning and design
    • Proficient oral and written communication skills
    • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities
    • Ability to analyze and resolve irregular events

    Licenses & Certifications

     Valid Class "C" Texas driver's license

    Physical Tasks & Working Conditions

    The incumbent works in a typical office environment; relatively free from unpleasant environmental conditions or hazards.
