  • Position Summary

    Responsible for overall management of business operations, including coordination and support of administrative, risk management, project management, and compliance activities across GP&L organizations; has oversight for development and support of automated applications systems including front, middle and back office integrated systems ensuring cost control, milestone achievement, and successful implementation; including effective management of consultant staff when applicable. Additionally, responsible for coordination and support of GP&L’s ERCOT subcommittee activities and monitor market rules changes, including support of QSE analytics, CRR activities, financial gas hedging, and market review. Oversee budget analysis for Energy Services Department and supply reports to Director, Energy Services and provide analysis and recommendations for financial gas hedge program to GP&L Risk Oversight Committee. Support and monitor compliance of GP&L Risk Management Policy and associated procedures.

    Essential Job Functions

    1. Manages and oversees GP&L business operations including administrative functions; risk management; project management and compliance across GP&L Divisions.
    2. Initiate and oversee GP&L business systems development including cost benefit analysis, project management, and management of consultant staff when applicable; oversees maintenance, support, and monitoring of wholesale energy common databases; monitors and ensures data flow integrity.
    3. Oversee support of wholesale energy reporting, query, and analytics requirements.
    4. Oversee RFP activities for GP&L Energy Services.
    5. Oversee support of GP&L’s Risk Management Policy, associated procedures, and Risk Oversight Committee.
    6. Monitor financial natural gas markets, support GP&L hedge program, and execute financial gas hedges.
    7. Oversee support of CRR strategy and congestion analysis; oversee support of wholesale customer Congestion Revenue Rights (CRR) activities.
    8. Oversee support of and coordination of Energy Services departmental compliance activities to ensure QSE and power plant compliance with NERC Standards, ERCOT Protocols, Operating Guides, and CFTC reporting requirements. Provide updates of procedure changes to the QSE group and power plant and coordinate training when applicable.
    9. Oversee support of GP&L’s ERCOT subcommittee activities, monitor market rule changes, and coordination GP&L market rules meetings.
    10. Oversee Energy Services budgets; provide analysis and reports to Director, Energy Services.
    11. Oversee support and coordination of QSE market review; monitor and oversee support of mark to market and credit limit activities.
    12. Manage and develop staff involved in Business Operations activities, including Market & Congestion Analysis Program Managers and other personnel assigned to ensure compliance across Energy Services.
    13. Initiate and oversee administration of contracts, transaction confirmations, and amendments for fuel and power transactions, support financial audit activities.
    14. Oversee meter analysis.
    15. Oversee REC reporting and analysis.

    Minimum Education & Work Experience

    Bachelor’s degree in business related discipline
    5 years of experience in energy utility sector
    2-3 years of supervisory experience
    Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

    Preferred Knowledge - Abilities & Skills

    Education/ Experience:     

    • Bachelors degree in Finance, Economics, or related discipline
    • 6-8 years of experience in energy trading, natural gas and/or electric industry, or energy business operations
    • 5 years of supervisory experience

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

    • Knowledge of the ERCOT market
    • Knowledge of electric power system concepts
    • Knowledge of energy industry compliance requirements
    • Considerable knowledge of various management and leadership styles
    • Skill in Microsoft Office (Excel and Word)
    • Skill in contract negotiation and conflict resolution
    • Skill in forming and implementing organizational vision




    Licenses & Certifications

     Valid Class C Texas driver's license
