    Each newly appointed Firefighter will receive a starting annual salary of $57,534 and $62,948 after one year. After one year, Firefighters may be eligible to receive longevity, additional education and assignment compensation, as provided by State Statute and City of Garland Civil Service Rules and Regulations.

  • Position Summary

    Following on the job training, responsible for performing a variety of technical tasks in fire suppression, rescue, emergency medical services, prevention, investigation, administrative and other special assignments.

    Essential Job Functions

    1) Perform fire suppression and other rescue operations
    2) Search for and/or rescue trapped or injured persons
    3) Assist in implementing continuous fire prevention activities
    4) Respond to medical services calls
    5) Administer first aid and emergency medical services to sick or injured persons to level authorized by Paramedic certification
    6) Perform various administrative duties
    7) May participate on department committees and attend staff meetings
    8) Participate in routine housekeeping and preventative maintenance


    Minimum Education & Work Experience

    High School Graduate or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)

    Licenses & Certifications

    Valid Class C Texas driver's license and ability to obtain Class B after employment.

    Physical Tasks & Working Conditions

    The incumbent works in a fire station environment. Exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards is possible. Work may be performed outside or with exposure to risk.
