  • Position Summary

    Responsible for installing and maintaining traffic control signs and pavement markings.


    Essential Job Functions

    1. Perform work involving sign fabrication, installation, removal, repair, and maintenance of all traffic signs including overhead traffic control signs at heights up to 30 feet.
    2. Operate, maintain, and repair street marking equipment.
    3. Using a laptop computer, enter records of installed signs and markings in the asset management program.
    4. Trim trees and/or shrubbery causing visibility obstructions of traffic control signs.
    5. Install and maintain pavement markings on streets; including centerlines, lane lines, crosswalks and fire lanes.
    6. Setup barricades, cones and signing in a safe manner to control traffic for lane, road closures and special events.


    Minimum Education & Work Experience

     High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalent
     Up to 1 year related experience
    Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

    Preferred Knowledge - Abilities & Skills

    Education/ Experience:     

    • 1 to 3 years experience in transportation related field

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

    • Knowledge of proper street marking placement
    • Knowledge of proper traffic control sign placement
    • Knowledge of maintenance traffic control signage
    • Skill in the use of computers
    • Skill involving wide variety of  tools
    • Skills utilizing mathematics and computation
    • Skills in operating various vehicles and equipment used for signage placement and street marking
    • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing in the English language

    Licenses & Certifications

     Valid Class C Texas driver's license

    Physical Tasks & Working Conditions

    The incumbent works outdoors in high traffic areas with frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Works with various tools at heights up to 30 feet.
