  • Position Summary

    Responsible for helping maintain positive media and public relations for the department, overseeing internal and external department related digital, print and video productions, and coordinating all the Police Department’s social media platforms. This position will have direct involvement in working with Police Administration on press releases, informational promotion of the department’s programs, sensitive issues, as well as working with news agencies as necessary.

     

     

    Target Hiring Range: $22.20/hr - $30.00/hr

    Essential Job Functions

    1. Produce creative digital media content and stories (shoot, write, edit and voice).
    2. Graphic design production for official department documents, content branding, and social media.
    3. Provide oversight of internal and external department publications and communications.
    4. May appear before community groups and give live, on-air interviews with television, radio and social media sites to present information related to department initiatives, goals and activities. 
    5. Serve as co-editor, contributing writer, photographer and/or videographer for department publications.
    6. Maintain and keep up-to-date the department website
    7. Remain knowledgeable of all departmental events, programs, and promotions to assist with general public information inquiries. 

    Minimum Education & Work Experience

     4 year college degree
     3 years of related experience
    Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

    Preferred Knowledge - Abilities & Skills

    Education/ Experience:    

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing or a related field of study
    • 3-5 years experience in Public Relations, Marketing, or Print Production

     

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

    • Excellent writing skills with exceptional professional, creative and technical writing ability and comprehensive knowledge of grammar and syntax
    • Good organizational and time management skills
    • Extensive knowledge of standard social media platforms (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and blogging), as well as live broadcasting
    • Advance understanding of web content management standards
    • Advance understanding of social media and alternative web media applications
    • Advance skill in graphic and video editing/production software
    • Skill in computer software applications including Microsoft Office (Access, Excel, Outlook, Word)
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to meet department goals

     

    Licenses & Certifications

     Valid Class C Texas driver's license

    Physical Tasks & Working Conditions

    The incumbent works in a typical office environment; relatively free from unpleasant environmental conditions or hazards. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
