Position Summary

Responsible for leading a Transmission crew in building and maintaining dependable electric service in the GP&L Transmission and Distribution service area including overhead distribution, underground distribution, transmission, and substation systems. Also, responsible for installing, removing, and maintaining transmission, distribution, and substation line equipment. 

 

Essential Job Functions

  1. Direct crew in the repair and replacement of transmission and distribution power lines, substations, switchyards.
  2. Direct and lead crew in building and maintaining transmission/distribution/substation infrastructure and equipment.
  3. Identify, diagnose system disturbances and abnormalities
  4. Determine work procedures and operate necessary equipment.
  5. Compile paperwork for WFM and Engineers.
  6. Direct and monitor job tasks, progression and capability of crew.
  7. Direct crew to assist Substation personnel in maintaining substation equipment.
  8. Standby duties and callout assistance after regular working hours.
  9. Occasional travel to remote system facilities.
  10. Direct and engage working procedures to ensure safety practices are applied.

Minimum Education & Work Experience

 High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D.)
 Department of Labor Journeymen Lineman Certificate or equivalent
 2 years experience as a Journeyman Lineman
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job

Preferred Knowledge - Abilities & Skills

Education/ Experience:     

  • 5-years experience as a Journey Line Technician

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:           

  • Considerable knowledge of power line construction methods and practices
  • Considerable knowledge of electric transmission and distribution system operations
  • Considerable knowledge of transformer theory, loading and connectivity
  • Skill with office equipment and Microsoft Office
  • Ability to identify system operating problems
  • Ability to work with field crews to ensure safe work practices are followed at all times

Licenses & Certifications

 Valid Commercial Driver’s License Class A (Standard Transmission)

Physical Tasks & Working Conditions

The incumbent works in an outside environment; frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Majority of work performed outside at construction sites and/or power lines and substation locations.
