Position Summary

Responsible for the daily management of the Electric Department’s server and storage infrastructure. Also responsible for providing technical assistance to department staff and outside vendors to plan and install server/storage equipment, software, and cabling systems to satisfy capacity needs.



Essential Job Functions

  1. Install and administer server infrastructure in coordination with City Communication personnel or outside vendors.
  2. Investigate and resolve problems with performance and response time for server and storage infrastructure.
  3. Provide Windows Administration as primary administer over the Windows infrastructure and network services, including:
    • Active Directory
    • DNS
    • DHCP
    • Exchange Server
    • IIS
    • MS SQL
    • Remote Desktop Services
    • File server
    • SharePoint
    • Hyper-V
  4. Assist with the maintenance and administration of the highly integrated Virtualization Environment using technologies in a Hyper converged data storage environment with the continuation of planning, designing, implementation and support.
  5. Assist with the development, implementation, testing and maintenance of server and data level disaster recovery plans.
  6. Proactively monitor all servers, applications and services using a combination of tools to ensure high availability and SLA's.
  7. Provide user support for all user-based systems; providing assistance to the other IT staff members.
  8. Initiate new responsibilities and assist with plans for the future of all sites.
  9. Provide day-to-day operations support, system administration and software deployment tasks, as required.

Minimum Education & Work Experience

Four-year college degree
5 years related experience
Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) certification required
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

Preferred Knowledge - Abilities & Skills

Education/ Experience:     

  • Four-year college degree in Business, Information Technology, Computer Science or related field of study
  • 5-7 year’s experience installing and managing server and storage infrastructure 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Extensive knowledge of administering All Windows OS's
  • Extensive knowledge of Hyper-convergence, NAS or SAN storage systems
  • Extensive knowledge of underlying fundamentals of virtualization concepts using Hyper-V technology with an emphasis on networking
  • Extensive knowledge of backup systems and procedures
  • Basic knowledge of NERC CIP requirements
  • Interpersonal skills to work with users to define system requirements and resolve problems
  • Ability to write scripts in some administrative language (Perl, PowerShell or VBScript)

Licenses & Certifications

Microsoft MCP certification required
Microsoft MCSE and/or MCSA certification preferred, not required
Backup and Storage related certifications (Veeam, Backup Exec) preferred, not required
Valid Class C Texas Driver's license
