Position Summary

Be the first line of emergency response! Responsible for receiving and responding to emergency and non-emergency calls to ensure appropriate fire, police, medical and related city services. 


Starting Hiring Range: $19.37 and up depending on qualifications.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Effectively receive, prioritize and document emergency and non-emergency calls and situations.
  2. Apply policies, procedures, guidelines relating to emergency situations and crime intervention to ensure compliance, safety of citizens and emergency response personnel and prevent liabilities.
  3. Act as a liaison between the Garland Police and Fire Departments, other city departments and/or government agencies as needed.
  4. Monitor and control the movement of field units and provide appropriate and effective coverage in response to public safety emergencies
  5. Perform administrative duties as needed or requested.

Minimum Education & Work Experience

 Must be U.S. citizen at the time of application
 High School Diploma or G.E.D equivalent
 No experience required

Ability to satisfactorily complete pre-employment screening, background investigation, post-hire training and State licensure requirements.

Preferred Knowledge - Abilities & Skills


  • Basic knowledge of computer technology and equipment
  • Basic knowledge of English language for spelling and proper word usage
  • Ability to work under pressure and respond appropriately during emergency situations
  • Ability to type 35 words per minute while multitasking

Physical Tasks & Working Conditions

Ability to work shifts which may include day, evening or rotating schedules.
