Position Summary

Responsible for observing, inspecting and monitoring transmission contractor construction operations to ensure compliance and conformance to design and specifications, verify proper material and hardware types, quantities, quality provided to contractor; act as the liaison between the Engineer of Record and contractor for all technical questions. Also responsible for inspecting and monitoring vegetation management contractors to ensure conformance to GP&L Transmission Vegetation Management Program and NERC FAC-003-6 Standard Responsible for inspecting transmission ROW, access, mechanical condition of electric facilities, vegetation growth to ensure system reliability and safety including supporting documentation, reports and work orders.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Examine construction, maintenance, and vegetation work performed by contractors.
  2. Ensure contractors follow GP&L policies and procedures and compliance with design.
  3. Obtain ROW/clearances on Transmission or Distribution line circuits.
  4. Inspect Distribution easements and equipment for reliability.
  5. Prepare supporting documentation, reports, work orders including interaction with GP&L’s WFM and AIP department.
  6. Interpret engineering design, specifications, and acceptable construction procedures including consulting with design engineer to inform contractors in resolution of technical problems.
  7. Investigate customer or property owner complaints and initiate satisfactory resolution.

Minimum Education & Work Experience

High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
4 years related experience in electrical industry
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

Preferred Knowledge - Abilities & Skills

Education/ Experience:     

  • 8 or more years experience with Electric Utility or as a Journey Line Technician

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:           

  • Computer skills – Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint
  • Ability to read and translate construction documents and online drawings of electric designs
  • Ability to communicate standards and specifications for construction projects
  • Highly organized and self-motivated to work with little supervision

Licenses & Certifications

Class A CDL Driver’s License

Physical Tasks & Working Conditions

The incumbent works at construction sites; frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards; majority of work performed outside.
