Position Summary

Responsible for performing standard preventative maintenance on commercial HVAC equipment including but not limited to service, repair and replacement of broken parts/components.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Monitor and maintain commercial HVAC equipment as needed.
  2. Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues on various types of commercial HVAC equipment.
  3. Maintain records on equipment for jobs and purchases.
  4. Communicate effectively with staff, City departments and external vendors as needed.
  5. Assist other technicians as needed.

Minimum Education & Work Experience

 High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
 Vocational training in commercial HVAC systems
 Environmental Protection Agency Certification
 3 years experience working with commercial HVAC equipment
 Must be able to successfully complete background investigation and drug screening
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

Preferred Knowledge - Abilities & Skills

Education/ Experience:     

  • 3-5 years experience working with commercial HVAC equipment

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:           

  • General knowledge of commercial HVAC equipment
  • General knowledge of automated controls
  • General knowledge of electrical and mechanical operations
  • Skill in maintaining commercial HVAC equipment
  • Skill in troubleshooting commercial HVAC equipment malfunctions
  • Ability to perform work without supervision
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Ability to develop and maintain working relationships with other City personnel

Licenses & Certifications

 Valid Class C Texas driver's license
 Environmental Protection Agency Certification

Physical Tasks & Working Conditions

Incumbent works with exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Frequent outside work. Incumbent is subjected to extreme temperatures, weather conditions, noise, electrical and mechanical hazards. Requires the ability to carry 30 to 50 pounds, kneel, twist and bend. Requires extensive walking and standing for long periods of time. Periodically will remain on call for 24 hours a day.
