Responsible for maintaining electrical systems for all City of Garland facilities.  Also, responsible for ensuring safe and proper electrical operation.

 

An individual will be hired EITHER as an Apprentice Electrician, Journeyman Electrician, or Master Electrician depending on license and/or experience.

1. Troubleshoot lighting and electrical problems and replace malfunctioning equipment as appropriate.
2. Respond to electrical service work order requests.
3. Install electrical components for special projects.
4. Contact contractor on large projects and oversee completion.
5. Respond to service request for lights out.
6. Perform monthly maintenance checks such as proper lighting and proper electrical circuits. 

 High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
 4 year experience working with electrical equipment
 Licensed Electrician in the State of Texas
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

Education/ Experience:     

• 6 months to 1 year advanced training past the high school level
• 4-6 years experience working with electrical equipment

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:           

• General knowledge of electrical equipment and electrical operations
• General knowledge of facilities maintenance
• Skill in working with electrical and lighting equipment
• Skill with needed tools
• Ability to complete tasks without supervision
• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing

 Valid Class C Texas driver's license
 Licensed Electrician in the State of Texas

The incumbent works with occasional exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Occasional outside work. The duties involved entail constant standing, walking, bending, climbing ladders and lifting when making repairs. The incumbent is subject to minor injuries to hands or fingers and possible serious injury or death from electrical shock. Exposed to high noise levels due to operation of motors and various equipment. Requires the ability to carry 30 to 50 pounds.
