Position Summary

Responsible for the supervision of all wastewater plant equipment repair and maintenance activities performed on electrical, chemical, and mechanical equipment at the Duck Creek or Rowlett Creek Treatment Plants. Also, works with vendors, contractors, engineers, and other City departments to ensure parts are available, projects are completed and work flow is maintained. Assumes the role of Plant Superintendent when the Plant Superintendent is not available.

 

Essential Job Functions

  1. Oversee the completion of work assignments to ensure the continued operation of plant equipment. Inspect all work performed by staff to review completed job assignments to ensure the safety, accuracy and quality of the work process.
  2. Oversee the day-to-day operations of maintenance activities performed by employees and external contractors, inspecting their work to ensure compliance with applicable specifications and quality standards.
  3. Assist with the preparation of bid specifications and obtain quotes for maintenance projects and equipment.
  4. Assist in managing resources (i.e. human and monetary) and developing methods, practices and procedures to safely, effectively and economically repair and maintain equipment that is essential to the treatment process.
  5. Approve purchase orders and requests for expenditures related to tools, parts, equipment, materials, and supplies within established guidelines.
  6. Develop maintenance skill assessments, coach employees to properly accomplish skills and assess employees on skill performance.
  7. Plan for and administer the orderly replacement and upgrade of existing equipment and control system assets.
  8. Assist with evaluation of the condition of plant assets.  Perform research on new and replacement technologies.
  9. Assist in budgetary considerations, design development and construction installation of plant equipment, structures and control systems.
  10. Assume the role of Plant Superintendent when the Plant Superintendent is not available.
  11. Oversee and schedule the preventative maintenance and repair activiies for pumps, generators, and control panels. 
  12. Must have the ability to plan and implement effeictve programs to meet varied goals. 

Minimum Education & Work Experience

• High School Diploma plus 6 months advanced study
• 5 years related experience
• 1 year of lead or supervisory experience
• TCEQ Class B Wastewater license required
• Satisfactory combinations of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential job duties may be considered.

Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.


Preferred Knowledge - Abilities & Skills

 

Education/ Experience:

  • Associate’s Degree in Engineering, Technology Engineering or related area
  • 4-6 years experience in advance industrial plant maintenance and repair at a wastewater treatment facility
  • 1-3 years supervisory experience at a 10-million gallon a day plant
  • TCEQ Class A Wastewater license

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of pump and motor maintenance
  • Comprehensive knowledge of engineering prints and specifications
  • Comprehensive knowledge of work order scheduling application
  • Comprehensive knowledge of federal and state rules and regulations.
  • Skill with Microsoft Office computer applications
  • Advanced skill with SCADA control system logic

Licenses & Certifications

Valid Class C Texas driver's license
TCEQ Class B Wastewater license required

Physical Tasks & Working Conditions

Frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Frequent work performed outside or with exposure to risk including exposure to hazardous chemicals, raw sewage, communicable diseases, loud or constant noise, electricity, humidity, wetness, extreme temperatures, heights, odors, gases, mists, confined spaces, climbing ladders, cramped spaces, and inherent construction related hazards. Position is subject to 24-hour call out, 365 days per year.
