Position Summary

Responsible for performing basic maintenance for litter and debris removal from public roadways and open land areas around the landfill for the Landfill Disposal Department.

 

Target Hiring Range: $12.27/hr - $14.70/hr

Essential Job Functions

  1. Collect and dispose of litter and debris from right of ways, grounds, roadsides, slopes, and fence areas.
  2. Operate line trimmer, riding lawnmower, and other small/light equipment, etc.
  3. Operate power washer to clean facilities and equipment.
  4. Perform minor preventive maintenance on tools and equipment as needed.
  5. Perform general housekeeping in shop and repair facilities.
  6. Operate a city vehicle to assist in carrying out routine maintenance.
  7. Perform traffic control and truck spotter duties on occasion as backup to operations

Minimum Education & Work Experience

High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
No experience required
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

Preferred Knowledge - Abilities & Skills

Education/ Experience:     

  • 6 months to 1 year grounds maintenance experience, or
  • 6 months to 1 year light or heavy equipment operation experience

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:           

  • Basic knowledge of operating equipment in a safe manner
  • Basic knowledge of vehicle and equipment maintenance
  • Skill to operate various equipment including mowers, edger, power washer, etc
  • Ability to understand and implement verbal and written instructions

Licenses & Certifications

 Valid State of Texas Class C Drivers License

Physical Tasks & Working Conditions

The incumbent works with frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Majority of work performed outside or with exposure to risk. May be exposed to extremes of heat and cold, rain, humidity, insects, noxious odors, fumes, and physical stress from exertion and lifting. Exposed to physical exertion such as bending, lifting, stooping, reaching, pulling, and pushing. Ability to lift, push, and push up to 50 pounds several times daily.
