Position Summary

Responsible for supervising the Payment Center Representatives, who interact with over 200,000 utility customers and process over $280 million in utility payments for the Customer Service Department. Also, responsible for coordinating the state utility sales tax program for City of Garland utility customers.

 

: $49,234/yr - $61,069/yr

Essential Job Functions

  1. Ensure all utility accounts are properly coded in the system.
  2. Oversee the daily utility collection process, including opening and processing mail utility payments.
  3. Run daily balancing reports to keep up with monthly reconciliation.
  4. Refund sales taxes on customer accounts.
  5. Decode exemptions as designated by State Comptroller.
  6. Verify state exemptions every six months for accuracy and coding.
  7. Establish programs and production goals, priorities and major work schedules in accordance with established policies.

Minimum Education & Work Experience

Two- year Associate’s degree
8 years related experience
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

Preferred Knowledge - Abilities & Skills

Education/ Experience:     

  • Associate’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration or related area of study
  • 8 or more years experience in customer service, payment center or similar field
  • 2 years supervisor experience

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Considerable knowledge of state exemption policies and practices
  • Considerable knowledge of accounting practices and principles
  • Skill in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Skill in utilizing INOVAH and Banner billing systems
