In an effort to aid City Departments in their mission to deliver effective and efficient services to citizens and maintain timely, responsive operations, a temporary staffing pool is maintained to meet these needs. Applicants will be hired to work temporary assignments as noted in the description below.
This position is posted quarterly to ensure the City has access to current interested candidates. Applicants will be notified to re-apply to each quarter’s posting to indicate your continued interest and availability. Job assignment duration may extend beyond the quarter.
Responsible for providing administrative support to assigned department management and staff and carrying out administrative responsibilities as established through departmental needs.
- Temporary positions will be available on an as-needed basis
- Department, hours and shifts will vary per assignment (part-time, full-time, etc.)
- All temporary employees must pass a background check and drug screen

Responsible for performing routine animal care and related duties at the Garland Animal Services’ Adoption Center and animal shelter including: medical evaluations, behavior evaluation, cleaning and maintaining kennel areas, socializing with adoptable animals and assisting citizens interested in adoption. Also responsible for leading volunteers with duties and responsibilities.

Responsible for placing animals in adoptive homes via responsible match-making, counseling, and by providing exceptional customer service to prospective adopters.

Works under the supervision of the Parks Manager, in coordination with the Asset Coordinator to collect GPS data and condition rating of public trees in Parks and City property for the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department. This data will be used to determine management of Garland’s Urban Forest and to quantify the eco-system service benefits.

Responsible for providing entry-level day-to-day administrative and business support to EWS Department and carrying out administrative responsibilities as established through departmental needs.

Responsible for managing, reviewing and approving the design of private land development projects and various public works projects to ensure compliance with the City of Garland code of ordinances, generally accepted engineering practices and techniques and other agency regulations.
Salary commensurate with experience
Responsible for observing, inspecting and monitoring transmission contractor construction operations to ensure compliance and conformance to design and specifications, verify proper material and hardware types, quantities, quality provided to contractor; act as the liaison between the Engineer of Record and contractor for all technical questions. Also responsible for inspecting and monitoring vegetation management contractors to ensure conformance to GP&L Transmission Vegetation Management Program and NERC FAC-003-6 Standard Responsible for inspecting transmission ROW, access, mechanical condition of electric facilities, vegetation growth to ensure system reliability and safety including supporting documentation, reports and work orders.
Responsible for building and maintaining dependable electric service in the GP&L Transmission and Distribution service area including overhead distribution, underground distribution, transmission, substation, and lighting systems. Also, responsible for installing, removing, and maintaining transmission, distribution, substation and service line equipment.
Responsible for assisting the Sanitation Driver with bulky goods and brush collection in a safe and efficient manner. Must adhere to all collection and safety policies and procedures.

Responsible for detaining and processing people who are arrested in the City of Garland and to humanely treat and protect the constitutional rights of the inmates during their time of confinement.
Responsible for procuring materials, equipment, services, and other items in a timely and cost effective manner for the City of Garland. Also, responsible for complying with all applicable laws and policies.

Responsible for custodial duties related to maintaining the Firewheel Golf Park Pavilion, all club house facilities, facility grounds and parking areas. The position will assist in the preparation and/or set up of tournament pavilion and golf park for events and tournaments. Also, responsible for preforming semi-skilled customer service and assisting with the day-to-day operation of the golf cart fleet.
Target Hiring Range: $12.50/hr - $15.31/hr
Responsible for performing a combination of duties related to golf course maintenance under the direct supervision of a lead person or superintendent.
Responsible for providing technical, administrative and customer service support to the development process.
Responsible for performing semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the maintenance and inspection of irrigation systems in City of Garland Park facilities.

Responsible for performing basic maintenance for litter and debris removal from public parks, medians and parkways for the PRCAD (Parks) Department.

Responsible for the complex analysis of policies, procedures, financial documents and contracts to ensure accuracy of expenditures, maximization of revenues, efficiency and effectiveness of operations, and compliance with federal, state and local regulations and laws. The Sr. Auditor may also train and lead auditors in the field.
Responsible for installing, diagnosing and repairing irrigation system equipment in order to provide adequate water supply to parks and athletic fields.
Responsible for managing the identification, development, implementation and monitoring of plans, projects and activities under the City’s redevelopment program. Also responsible for identifying and engaging public and/or private development partners and their associated projects in other areas of the community as assigned.

Responsible for interacting with utility customers or their agents, either by telephone or in person, to resolve a variety of questions and concerns regarding electric, water, sewer and sanitation services.
Responsible for operating specialized heavy equipment used in removing asphalt /concrete pavement, excavating earth, placing, compacting and stabilizing recycled concrete, base materials, asphalt, operating pavers and performing tasks in pavement improvement projects. Also, responsible for servicing and maintaining equipment and vehicles on job site.
Target Hiring Range: $18.65/hr - $23.29/hr
Responsible for operating heavy equipment and other vehicles for the purpose of excavating, processing, compacting substances on a daily basis. Also, responsible for the efficient operation and care of assigned equipment. This position will normally operate a water truck, dump truck, roll-off truck at the landfill site.
